A man wakes up alone in the middle of the desert with a black hood on his head and his hands tied behind his back. At death's door, he is discovered by a woman living alone in the desert and is nursed back to health. Upon regaining consciousness, the man realizes he has no idea who he is or how he got in the desert. His only clue, a piece of paper in his pocket with the name "Manny Elder" written on it, sends him on a journey to Los Angeles to discover his past. But things and people are not what they seem and clues lead to something bigger and more unusual than the man could have ever imagined.

When five friends decide to getaway, they had no idea it would be their final camping trip together. The sole survivor is found criminally insane and charged with their murders, but he maintains his innocence and believes that aliens made him do it.  

Audrey lives in an era simply referred to as 'The Shut-In Period.' Basically meaning that after nightfall one best keep their ass shut behind closed doors. The world has ended and no one is exactly sure why. Most have either died or gone mad. The few who remain fight and kill for survival in a world dominated by the Internet.

In a move to stem rising violence, everyone has been implanted with a chip that records every second of every day. The device referred to as 'The Black Box' does its job well. Too well. Memories, thoughts, and emotions live on...even after death.
